What does my Scout need?
Many first time Scout parents have questions about what they need to buy for their Scout to participate in the program.
This page is your resource for your Scout's uniform and gear needs!
The Uniform
Troop 65 encourages all boys to wear the official ScoutsBSA Field Uniform (also referred to as Class A) to all non-camp out events.
The Field uniform consists of:
- Tan Field Uniform Shirt
- Scouts BSA Shoulder Loops (Green)
- Required patches:
- Council Patch
- Troop Numbers
- Rank Patch
- Patrol Patch
- Purple World Crest Emblem
- Red Troop 65 Neckerchief
- Neckerchief Slide
- Scouts BSA Belt
Troop Camping Gear
The Troop maintains much of the gear that Patrols will use on camp outs.
The following is a partial list:
- Tents
- Dining Flies
- Patrol Cook Boxes
- Water Jugs
- Coolers
- Camp Stoves
- Lanterns
- Troop First Aid Kits
- Axes and Saws
- Dutch Ovens
Optional Uniform Items:
- ScoutsBSA Ball Cap (Recommended)
- Olive Green Pants
- ScoutsBSA Socks
All Scouts should have the following for all camping activities:
- Hiking Boots
- Backpack / Duffel Bag
- Compass
- Canteen / Water Bottle
- Mess Kit w/ Utensils
- Sleeping Bag
- Air Mattress / Sleeping Pad
- Rain Gear
- Scout Knife*
- Personal Toiletries
*The rules for knife safety are on page 380 of the Boy Scout Handbook. All Scouts must have a Totin'Chip (pg. 386) and follow specific rules before using a knife, ax or saw. If a Scout fails to follow these rules his right to use these tools may be taken away.
